NFL Season Approaches: Time for Fantasy Football Drafts

The NFL season is just a few weeks away, which means it’s time for fantasy football drafts. Personally, I find that a hierarchical drafting sheet is really helpful for this. It groups players based on similar fantasy values, letting you see how many players are left in each position compared to others. It’s a simple approach, but quite effective for managing your draft strategy.

We’ve wrapped up two weeks of training camp and have two more weeks of preseason ahead, which should clarify player rankings and stages. There are still some uncertainties, like Terry McLaurin’s contract situation and the implications of Lacy Rice’s suspension. But overall, the list of unanswered questions is shrinking.

Most other questions right now relate to injuries and depth chart changes. Injuries are always a possibility, so it’s important to keep an eye on where various players stand.

Matthew Stafford, QB, Rams

Stafford has recently returned to practice following a back injury. Given his age and history of back issues, he remains a bit of a wild card in fantasy drafts. Still, it’s reassuring to see him back; his presence is crucial for maximizing the potential of other offensive players.

Meanwhile, Mixon has not practiced at all this preseason, and the news regarding his foot injury is looking grim. Not often one to predict doom, but, well, time is running short. Nick Chubb and Dameon Pierce have been sharing snaps with the first team, while rookie Woody Marks sits behind them.

Chris Godwin, WR, Buccaneers

Godwin is still recovering from an ankle injury and remains on the physically unable to perform list. He could potentially be ready for the start of the regular season, miss the first four games, or, perhaps, take even longer. The outlook seems positive based on the team’s comments, but they haven’t provided a specific timeline.

Isaiah Likely, TE, Ravens

He may have undergone surgery for a leg injury he sustained in early August. If recovery goes as planned, we could expect him back within six weeks, potentially in the early part of the season.

Shaquille was the Bills’ top receiver last season and has aspirations to build on that success this year. However, an ankle sprain could slow his start. I’m hoping he’ll still be ready for week one, but he might need a bit of time to fully regain his footing.

Najee Harris, RB, Chargers

Harris hasn’t practiced since suffering an eye injury on July 4th, though he’s been spotted doing some exercises on the sidelines. His absence could give rookie O’Malion Hampton a chance to step up.

As information keeps flowing in, player rankings and tiers are being adjusted. Just as I was about to finalize this update, the news broke that Brian Robinson Jr. won’t play on Monday. It appears he could be facing a trade or release, which is a blow to his fantasy value but opens the door for Jacory Croskey-Merritt. The life of a fantasy analyst is never dull! As kickoff approaches, we’re paying close attention to developments that could influence the rankings.
