Pritzker claims Trump is 'experiencing dementia' while supporting Biden's mental capability.

Conflict in Illinois Over National Guard Deployment

Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker has made some strong accusations against President Donald Trump, suggesting he is “a person suffering from dementia.” This was part of a wider discussion on the deployment of the National Guard to Illinois, which has sparked significant tension, particularly given that Democrats have previously backed former President Biden’s mental fitness.

On Tuesday, the Texas National Guard arrived in Illinois as a response to demonstrations against immigration policies, a move confirmed by Pentagon officials who mentioned that 200 Guard members were activated during the first two months.

“This is a guy who has dementia,” Pritzker said regarding Trump, pointing out that Trump seems disconnected from current events. “Something’s affecting his thought process. He doesn’t read or stay informed.” He also noted that Trump has the military authority to carry out his directives, which is concerning.

This fierce commentary follows Pritzker’s earlier defense of Biden, especially after Special Counsel Robert Hur’s report claimed that Biden was a “sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.” In response, Pritzker reportedly expressed distrust of the report’s origins, calling it unfair coming from a Trump appointee.

During a press conference in February 2024, Pritzker reaffirmed his support for Biden, emphasizing that Biden is knowledgeable and has significant experience in government. But following a poor debate performance, Biden eventually stepped back from his re-election campaign, leading his own party to quietly reconsider their concerns about his candidacy.

As Pritzker navigated these political waters, he still voiced strong support for Biden’s legacy, stating, “His political career has led to one of the most accomplished presidencies.” He expressed alarm over the potential for Trump to return to power.

In a recent interview, Pritzker drew unsettling historical parallels, claiming that the mobilization of troops in urban areas is reminiscent of early Nazi tactics. He described Trump’s decision to send military forces into cities as “wrong,” raising concerns about escalating violence and civil rights implications.

In the ongoing back-and-forth, Trump has responded by suggesting that Pritzker and Chicago’s Mayor should face legal consequences for their handling of the situation. The White House reacted sharply, accusing Pritzker of inciting violence with his rhetoric. They pointed out the ongoing violence in Chicago as an urgent issue while emphasizing Trump’s focus on safety.

As of now, the White House has not addressed Pritzker’s remarks about Trump’s mental state, leaving many questions unanswered. Meanwhile, Pritzker’s office has not yet provided further insight into the situation.
