Weddings and Protests: A Day of Contrasts

On Saturday, as thousands on the left protested President Donald Trump’s policies across the country, many Democrats were rejoicing at the beautiful wedding of former Hillary Clinton aides, Huma Abedin and Alex Soros, who is the son of the prominent liberal donor George Soros.

Guests at the wedding included notable figures like Vice President Kamala Harris, Senator Chuck Schumer, and Speaker Nancy Pelosi. Even Hillary Clinton, who faced a setback in the 2016 election, was there, making headlines, according to reports.

The wedding took place at the Soros family’s estate in the Hamptons, a swanky area in Long Island. Attendees shared with sources that the venue was stunning; I mean, just picture an elegant dining area set up under a spacious tent. It all looked immaculate for this weekend celebration.

Photographs from the event revealed guests enjoying a lavish menu featuring dishes like truffle agnolotti, cold pea soup, and wagyu beef. While the elite mingled and savored the high-end offerings, the New York Times referred to the scene as akin to a “political royal wedding.” Meanwhile, liberal activists took to the streets to voice their dissent against Trump at various protests.

One specific protest, titled “Billionaire Lane, King Closes!” was reportedly planned in Southampton. Some wedding guests even hopped on private jets, heading to their summer spots nearby.

Interestingly, Alex Soros was named chairman of the Open Society Foundation, his father’s leading charity, back in December 2022. It seems he’s taking a more active political role, meeting influential Democrats to discuss initiatives the foundation backs.

Abedin and Soros announced their engagement in July 2024. Abedin has a complicated past, being previously married to former Congressman Anthony Weiner, who faced legal issues involving inappropriate conduct.
