Immigration Reform Coalition Challenges Numbersusa’s Position
A diverse group advocating for pro-American immigration reform is pushing back against a “discussion document” presented by Numbersusa.
Activists warn that this conflict could hinder the momentum of the immigration reform effort during Donald Trump’s presidency. “If everyone is working toward the same goal, we need to be on the same page,” one activist remarked.
With the upcoming midterm elections in 2026, many Americans are becoming more aware of how Trump’s immigration policies are affecting wages, housing, and job opportunities. “Now isn’t the time to give up on this,” the activist added.
Numbersusa’s founder Roy Beck responded, labeling the concerns as misaligned. He emphasized that the “discussion document” was created by Braver Angels, an external group spearheading a national dialogue among various immigration reform and business factions.
Braver Angels’ Management Team is keenly focused on demonstrating that Americans across the political spectrum can reach a consensus on immigration issues. The initiative gained traction after a balanced assembly of representatives at the 2024 Braver Angels National Convention prioritized immigration reform.
The Citizens’ Committee on Immigration seeks to engage everyday Americans and national leaders, outlining policy suggestions that reflect a pragmatic approach, rather than a strictly partisan one.
Jim Robb, a Numbersusa staff member, has joined forces with Braver Angels, collaborating with immigrant advocates.
Other nations have conducted high-profile parliamentary debates to highlight public support for increased migration. Meanwhile, Numbersusa appears to be seeking draft reports to support their proposed immigration agreements.
This potential amnesty could allow millions of undocumented immigrants to remain but may exclude them from gaining citizenship.
One activist expressed frustration, saying, “They’ve strayed from the original mission… It’s bewildering why they’re reverting to outdated strategies. Many Americans support tougher immigration policies!”
Critics of Numbersusa argue that support for amnesty lessens the urgency to resolve issues surrounding undocumented immigrants, according to a business group invested in American workers.
Michael Huff, a co-president at Numbersusa, collaborates with Rob to convey key points to policymakers, including various congressional representatives. Some proposals pushed by Reps have called for pardons.
Huff’s controversial hire of James Massa, a previous leader at Numbersusa, led to significant staff turnover.
Roy Beck labeled Huff a “hardliner.” However, Jeremy Beck, now co-chair of Numbersusa, asserted, “There’s no real difference in policy between us and other reform groups.” He declined to comment on private discussions, remarking that everyone at Numbersusa is unified in promoting reduced immigration.
He conveyed to media outlets, “Numbersusa is dedicated to lowering immigration. We’ve secured critical funding for enforcement, but that’s just the beginning.” He pointed out that ongoing mass immigration and wealth redistribution are still pressing issues.
“We’re engaging in conversations with various groups to identify common ground and areas to advance,” Jeremy Beck stated, highlighting their commitment to due diligence in discussions.
He concluded by stating that although the issues are broad, the focus remains on advancing the HR2 immigration reform bill championed by Rep. Jim Jordan. However, some GOP representatives are quietly opposing it due to their support for the influx of lower-wage immigrants competing for jobs traditionally held by better-paid American workers.
