Pro-Hamas Group Claims It Is ‘Unrelated’ To Ex-Member Charged With Killing Israeli Embassy Staff

Incident Involving Suspected Activist

Former members of socialist groups are distancing themselves from Elias Rodriguez, accused of fatally shooting Israeli embassy personnel. The incident occurred after attendees left the Washington, D.C. Jewish Museum on a Wednesday night. Upon his arrest, Rodriguez reportedly exclaimed, “free, free Palestine.” Witnesses noted that he wore a Palestinian keffiyeh, which has drawn scrutiny towards the rhetoric of certain socialist factions regarding the Israeli-Palestinian tensions.

The Party for Socialism and Liberation (PSL) issued a statement distancing itself from the shooting. They emphasized that Rodriguez was a brief member until 2017, asserting that they did not endorse his actions. “We categorically refuse to associate PSL with this incident,” the post declared.

In the past, PSL has defended what they termed “Palestinian resistance” following the October 7, 2023 attacks by Hamas, which resulted in substantial devastation in Israel. At that time, PSL labeled claims of terrorism against the attacks as “false,” and dismissed the notion that Israel was simply defending itself.

Rodriguez is reported to have waited for the police following the shooting and admitted his involvement when they arrived. The authorities have since sought to question him further, and an FBI investigation has been initiated, including a search of his Chicago home.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Rodriguez previously worked with various left-leaning organizations, focusing on issues related to minority history. His previous affiliations have also raised eyebrows, particularly concerning the controversial narratives surrounding figures like Louis Farrakhan.

Responses from law enforcement agencies regarding an alleged anti-Israel manifesto linked to Rodriguez have not yet been forthcoming. The FBI is reportedly investigating the reliability of some writings attributed to him. One official characterized the recent shooting as a “terrifying act” with promises of severe penalties for those involved.
