A group of about 40 pro-Palestinian protesters stormed the home of Democratic Rep. Brad Schneider of Illinois in Chicago’s northern suburbs early Saturday morning, alarming neighbors and prompting police to step up patrols in the neighborhood.
Neighbors reported being shocked when protesters began making noise and shouting slogans at around 3am on Saturday.
Schneider, who is Jewish and an open supporter of Israel, was not at home at the time, but other family members were.

“It was terrifying, it was surreal, it woke us both up from our sleep,” one resident said. Said WMAQ-TV.
City officials immediately issued A local alert was issued and Highland Park police were dispatched and began dispersing protesters, according to WBBM-TV.
Police at the scene reported that protesters were using megaphones, beating drums and yelling “pro-Palestinian, anti-Semitic slogans.”
It was also reported that a red liquid, believed to be animal blood, had been dumped on the sidewalk in front of the deputy’s home.

Police said the crowd was dispersed peacefully and no arrests were made.
The lawmaker issued a statement lamenting the protesters’ failure to engage in “constructive dialogue.”

“It is unfortunate that instead of seeking constructive dialogue with Congressman Schneider, a group of people with covered faces have chosen to mock and intimidate a majority-Jewish neighborhood in the middle of the night on the Jewish Sabbath,” Schneider said in a statement.
“What’s even more disturbing is that they have chosen to harass a community as it prepares to mark the two-year anniversary of the Highland Park shooting, a shared tragedy fueled by hate. The Congressman is willing to meet and speak with anyone at any time, and I encourage those who disagree with him to seek discussions during the day, rather than leaving families in fear and harm in the dark of night,” he said.
