Pro-Palestinian protesters gathered Saturday night outside the Democratic Party’s largest fundraiser in history in Los Angeles to express their anger over President Biden’s Gaza policy amid the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas.
Biden will appear at a fundraiser hosted by actors George Clooney and Julia Roberts at the Peacock Theatre, where his campaign said a record $28 million had been raised before the event began.
In a statement to The Hill, Biden’s campaign wrote, “The President believes that having our voices heard and participating in our democracy are fundamental to who we are as Americans. He shares the goal of ending violence in the Middle East and achieving a just and lasting peace, and he is working tirelessly toward that goal.”
Two Twitter accounts linked to the protests posted videos of a group of people protesting outside the fundraiser venue.
“Dozens of pro-Palestinian protesters gathered outside the Peacock Theatre to protest Joe Biden’s fundraising plans.” I wrote the Glendale Project on X.
Video shows people chanting “Biden, Biden, we want a ceasefire.”
Protesters were seen gathering around 5 p.m. Pacific time, with the event itself starting at 6 p.m. It is unclear how many people were taking part in the protest.
The Secret Service did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
Earlier this week, Vice President Harris was disrupted during an appearance on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” by pro-Palestinian protesters who shouted chants such as “You have caused 15,000 dead children!” and “Stop the genocide!”
Gaza has become a divisive political topic in recent months, with more than 200 camps protesting U.S. policy in the Gaza area having popped up on college campuses across the United States.
