Pro-XRP Attorney John Deaton Is Running for Senate in Massachusetts Again

Simply put

  • John Deaton, a lawyer known for his pro-XRP stance, has declared his candidacy for the U.S. Senate, aiming to challenge Democratic Senator Ed Markey in Massachusetts during the 2026 elections.
  • The Republican candidate previously faced off against Senator Elizabeth Warren and lost by a significant margin, but he gained notable recognition as a pro-crypto figure.
  • While Deaton’s current campaign seems to overlook cryptocurrencies as a main policy focus, it does accept cryptocurrency donations.

Deaton, a well-known figure in the crypto community, announced his Senate run again after his previous attempt against Warren did not succeed. He will now be up against another Democratic senator, Ed Markey, in the upcoming midterm elections.

It seems like this decision might help him secure his position on the Republican ballot, as party leadership in the state supports him.

Earlier this year, he hinted at entering the race, influenced by the media exposure from his last campaign.

Massachusetts tends to vote largely Democratic, so Deaton’s prospects against Markey could be challenging. Considering his prior defeat against Warren, expectations for his current campaign might be even lower.

His prior run drew a lot of attention, primarily due to his stance on cryptocurrency. Though he fared poorly against Warren, he managed to attract financial backing from the crypto sector.

This time around, the political landscape feels different. Facing a opponent perceived as less of a threat might aid Deaton. Also, there seems to be a shift in focus regarding the cryptocurrency industry, especially with the previous administration showing a favorable stance towards digital currencies.

Interestingly, his new campaign website doesn’t prominently feature cryptocurrency policies, although he does mention his involvement in the crypto space and his defense of XRP holders. The site enables contributions in various cryptocurrencies, including options like Bitcoin, Ethereum, and even meme coins.

In March, he acknowledged his connections with influential PACs within the crypto sphere, which have been significant in political spending efforts.

During his last campaign, some of these organizations chose to prioritize other races, and it remains uncertain whether they will back him this time.
