A Pro Bowler was arrested during one of the biggest tournaments of the year. 2024 US Openand the charges he currently faces relate to child sexual abuse content.
Earlier this month, Brandon Novak, a 35-year-old bowler who has been competing on the pro circuit for nearly a decade, was in the middle of his own game. Second match At the U.S. Open at Royal Pin Woodlands in Indianapolis, federal marshals arrived and handcuffed him. The arrest was not captured on video, but a short clip of the incident’s broadcast shared on YouTube by 11thframe shows various bowlers constantly drawing attention to distractions elsewhere in the bowling alley. Despite his early exit from the tournament, Novak still finished in 36th place, good enough to win the $1,500 prize.
For now, that money appears to be Novak’s only bright spot. 15 charges: 5 counts of pandering to sexual content involving minors and 10 counts of unlawful use of minors in nudity-related content. He was then extradited from Indianapolis to his home state of Ohio.
The investigation into Novak began a year ago when police in Chillicothe, Ohio, received information about the charges against him. Facebook account It was linked to online child pornography. Chillicothe police then executed a search warrant at his residence.
According to reports, during interrogation, Novak initially admitted to authorities that he had purchased explicit material from someone on Snapchat, but that he did not know that the material included images of minors. He said that there was no such thing. He then reportedly changed his story and admitted to intentionally purchasing child sexual abuse material and attempting to cover his tracks.
Novak was booked into the Ross County Jail last Thursday and remains in custody. He is scheduled to appear at a pretrial hearing on March 21st.
