Professor Wiley Davi from Bentley University reported as missing on Maine’s Peaks Island

A professor from Massachusetts has gone missing on Peaks Island, off the coast of Maine, leaving search teams with many questions.

Wiley Davey, who teaches English and media literacy at Bentley University, was last spotted on November 15.

The 57-year-old, who resides on Casco Bay Island—about three miles from downtown Portland—was reported missing that day.

Authorities have organized a multi-agency search that has covered various trails and wooded areas on the island.

In addition, the Maine Marine Patrol has been scouring the waters surrounding Peaks Island.

According to reporters, local police have indicated that there’s no sign of foul play.

Davey is characterized as being about 5 feet 7 inches tall, weighing around 155 pounds, and has gray hair.

Details regarding the clothes he wore at the time of his disappearance remain unclear.

Residents have been urged to stay alert and check for anything unusual around them.

Joining Bentley University in 2003, Davey worked as an assistant professor until 2009, when he became an associate professor and later the dean of English and media studies. In July 2020, he transitioned to a full-time professor role at the university’s Waltham, Massachusetts campus, located about 190 miles south of Peaks Island.

A statement from a Bentley University spokesperson expressed concern, saying, “Mr. Wiley is a long-time and respected professor and friend to students, faculty, and staff on campus. Our hearts go out to Wiley, their loved ones, and the first responders leading the search. We hope and pray for Wiley’s safe return.”

Prior to his tenure at Bentley, Davey earned a Ph.D. in Medieval and Renaissance Studies from Tufts University, during which he also taught at Simmons College in Boston.
