Piker remarked, “It’s very clear that the Democratic voters care more about policies and having a progressive represent them in the Senate than age! Another win for our movement!” This comment came after Markey defeated Representative Seth Moulton, who is significantly younger, by emphasizing his progressive credentials.
Markey positioned himself as a champion for progressive values, countering Moulton’s campaign, which focused on generational change. In his messaging, Markey specifically highlighted his commitment to transgender rights—an issue that has been contentious among many Democrats.
In a clear highlight of the race, he stated, “Trans athletes should be able to play. That reflects Massachusetts and who we are. And Seth Moulton does not.” His stance drew firm contrasts with Moulton, who claimed that this approach contributed to Democrats’ challenges in the 2024 elections.
