Prosecutor at center of Fani Willis allegations avoids testimony with temporary divorce agreement

The special prosecutor leading former President Donald Trump’s 2020 election interference case in Georgia reached a tentative divorce agreement Tuesday, explaining his alleged romantic relationship with Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis (D). Avoided testimony that was likely to be sought.

a court order The document, signed by Cobb County Superior Court Judge Henry Thompson, said special prosecutor Nathan Wade “has entered into a temporary agreement that addresses all issues currently before the court.” According to the order, both sides determined Wednesday’s hearing was not necessary as a result of the agreement.

Wade’s divorce began earlier this month after Michael Roman, one of the defendants in the Trump case, accused Wade and Willis of having an inappropriate romantic relationship, calling the charges “fatally flawed.” It attracted attention.

The next hearing in Mr. Wade’s divorce case is scheduled for Wednesday, and his wife’s lawyers said they planned to question Mr. Wade about his finances and conduct. According to court documents filed by lawyers for Mr. Wade’s wife, Jocelyn, Mr. Wade may have faced questioning for allegedly purchasing multiple airline tickets for himself and Mr. Willis in the months leading up to Mr. Trump’s indictment. It is said to have a high level of sexuality.

The documents include bank statements that appear to show he and Willis purchased plane tickets to San Francisco and Miami. Ms. Willis was subsequently subpoenaed in the divorce case, but the judge suspended her deposition pending questioning of Mr. Wade.

Without Wade’s testimony on Wednesday, Willis is also likely to avoid testifying in the divorce case, which is still pending.

Judge Scott McAfee, who is presiding over the 2020 election interference case, ordered Willis to respond in writing to Roman’s allegations by Friday. Roman’s accusations were part of a motion to have Willis disbarred from the case and dismissed.

A hearing on Roman’s charges is scheduled for February 15th.

The Hill has reached out to Mr. Willis’ office and lawyers for Mr. Wade and his wife.
