Prosecutors: Frankfort mother accused of killing her 2-year-old son, claims she thought he was the 'devil' and the 'anti-Christ'

A mother from Frankfort, Illinois, has been charged with the murder of her two-year-old son after allegedly telling police she believed he was the “devil” and the “anti-Christ,” as stated by prosecutors.

Corie Walsh, 40, now faces three counts of first-degree murder connected to the death of her son, Barrett Walsh.

Interestingly, authorities indicated in court documents that Walsh had become intensely focused on the highly publicized murder trial of Lindsay Clancy, a Massachusetts mother accused of killing her three children, a case that has attracted substantial media attention.

The distressing incident occurred on September 1, 2026, when police in Frankfort responded to a call at the family’s home. At the time, Walsh’s husband was out of state for work but returned after being informed of the situation.

When officers arrived, they discovered a neighbor performing CPR on Barrett, who had been found hanging from a rafter with a ligature around his neck. The neighbor managed to free the child before calling for help.

An autopsy later confirmed asphyxia as the cause of death, resulting from ligature compression of the neck. Shortly after, police located Walsh in an upstairs bathroom, fully clothed and submerged in a bathtub filled with bloody water, exhibiting self-inflicted knife wounds on her wrists and thighs.

Court documents from the Will County State’s Attorney’s Office indicated that Walsh made strange remarks to the officers while receiving treatment, allegedly confessing that she harmed her son because she thought he was the “anti-Christ.”

Further investigations revealed that Walsh had been actively participating in a group text discussing the Lindsay Clancy trial until shortly before the incident. Witnesses noted her growing fixation on the case as the jury deliberated.

Prosecutors filed for the denial of Walsh’s pretrial release, expressing concerns about her being a potential threat to her husband and her three other children, who were unharmed during the incident. The court documents mentioned that Walsh had previously made remarks about harming her husband and surviving children.

Following her hospitalization, Walsh was taken into custody at the Will County Adult Detention Facility. She is set to appear in court before Judge Amy Bertani Tomczak on September 8. If found guilty, she could face a sentence of 60 to 100 years in prison due to the age of the victim.
