Prosecutors Reveal Key Details on Matthew Perry’s Fatal Ketamine Injection

Federal prosecutors said Thursday that actor Matthew Perry’s live-in assistant injected him with ketamine, which caused his death.

U.S. Attorney for the Central District of California, Martin Estrada, said in a statement Thursday that Perry’s death “revealed an extensive underground criminal network that distributed large quantities of ketamine to Mr. Perry and others.” Estrada said Perry’s assistant, Kenneth Iwamasa, conspired with Dr. Salvador Plasencia to provide ketamine to Perry, and over a two-month period, the two “distributed approximately 20 vials of ketamine to Mr. Perry in exchange for $55,000 in cash.”

“Plasencia saw this as an opportunity to profit from Perry,” Estrada said.

In one text exchange, Plascencia even said, “I wonder how much this idiot is gonna pay.”

“The defendants were more interested in profiting from Mr. Perry than they were in caring for his well-being,” Estrada said. “If you’re in the business of selling dangerous drugs, we’re going to hold you accountable for the deaths you cause.”
