Prosecutors Will Not Pursue Death Penalty In Nick Reiner’s Murder Trial

Los Angeles County DA Decides Against Death Penalty for Nick Reiner

Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman announced that he will not pursue the death penalty in the case against Nick Reiner.

Hochman explained his decision, stating, “In deciding whether or not the DA’s office was going to seek the death penalty, we have gone through a rigorous review where we looked at the aggravating factors as well as the mitigating ones. We spoke to the victims’ family, consulted with prosecutors, law enforcement, and collaborated with senior members of the district attorney’s office,” as reported by CNN.

Nick Reiner is facing two counts of first-degree murder for the deaths of his parents, Michele and Rob Reiner. Additionally, there’s an allegation of lying in wait, as outlined in an indictment released last month.

In a related report, sources told TMZ that the decision to forego the death penalty was influenced by various factors, notably the beliefs of his deceased parents.

Rob and Michele had been opposed to the death penalty themselves and were advocates for forgiveness, having supported Erika Kirk’s decision to forgive Tyler Robinson, the man charged with killing her husband, Charlie Kirk, according to TMZ.

Furthermore, the emotional impact on Nick’s siblings, Romy and Jake, was also a consideration. The prospect of enduring a sentencing phase that might lead to their brother’s execution was deemed too painful.

While the death penalty is off the table, Nick could still face life imprisonment without the possibility of parole, following the tragic murders of his parents in their home on December 14, 2025.

As of Monday, Reiner, who just turned 33, has pleaded not guilty.
