Kamala Harris Book Tour Faces Protests in Chicago

During a recent stop in Chicago for her book tour, former Vice President Kamala Harris experienced interruptions as security removed several protesters at the event promoting her memoir, “107 Days.”

While Harris was discussing her book with journalist Michelle Norris, who was moderating, a protester began shouting from the audience, prompting calls of “get her out!” from those present.

The protester was quickly escorted from the venue by security.

Video footage captured additional disruptions, including a man who shouted about genocide before being removed as well. The reasons behind these protests were not immediately apparent.

Norris addressed the crowd, saying, “We encourage people to use their voices, but please show respect for this woman,” which elicited applause from the audience.

Harris responded with a light-hearted comment, asking the crowd, “And please pronounce my name correctly…”

This incident was not isolated; since starting her national book tour late last month, Harris has faced similar protests at various venues while promoting “107 Days,” which recounts the events surrounding the 2024 presidential campaign after President Biden withdrew from the race.

The memoir provides a behind-the-scenes perspective on her campaign’s decisions, staff dynamics, and political hurdles encountered during the final days leading up to the election.

In addition to the live protests, her book has faced criticism from within her party. An adviser to a potential 2028 Democratic presidential candidate remarked, “It’s pretty crazy that she chose to write a gossip book that prioritizes the pettiness of her politics at a time when people are looking for vision and leadership.”

This adviser expressed concern that such a book was embarrassing for Harris and for Democrats alike, especially given that she has been in office for under a year.

Former CNN journalist Chris Sillizza contributed his thoughts in a recent post, mentioning that Harris’ media tour for her memoir portrayed her as not an effective politician. He highlighted her difficulties in public speaking, referring to it as “word salad.”

Democratic strategist Gary South also commented, stating that the timing of Harris’s memoir publication was unfortunate. He noted that the book’s tone suggested she was deflecting blame rather than taking responsibility for her past losses.

South added, “This is a strangely negative and disrespectful book for someone who reportedly thinks she could run again in 2028.”

Harris’ office has been contacted for comment regarding these issues.
