Florida shoppers will no longer be able to purchase the popular hurricane-themed cake from Publix because the company wants to avoid downplaying natural disasters.
Supermarket chain officials Said On WTSP Monday, the decision to no longer make sweet desserts:
Our employees are making every effort to support our guests during weather events. Often this involves finding ways to please them with their favorite Publix items as they prepare for uncertainty. Especially for such requests, it is our policy not to manufacture bakery cakes that disregard natural disasters.
Weather-themed cakes appeared a few years ago, some designed with the phrases “Go Away” and “Leave Florida Alone.”

Social media users expressed their displeasure with the decision, with some I have written“Party Poop”.
In a post on August 30, 2019, a social media user named Kate Wagner share Her story of going to Publix and trying to find a durian hurricane cookie cake.
The baker told her the store had received complaints about such cakes, adding that “they had been removed from all bakery displays.”
However, the baker seems to have pulled out a cake for her from the back of the shop.
Folks, I bravely joined Publix today for two things: a prescription and a Dorian Hurricane.
