Offseason Humor from Puka Nacua

Puka Nacua has had quite the offseason, but he still knows how to keep things light. During his first media session at Rams training camp on Wednesday, he tackled some serious topics while also sharing a laugh with his teammates, particularly Davante Adams.

When the conversation turned to Adams, Nacua couldn’t help but make a playful comment about his age. “When he came into this wide receiver room, I think he saw something similar to the physicality that we play,” he said, then teased, “Obviously, he’s going to have his 40th year or whatever it is.” It was a light jab that drew chuckles from those present.

Nacua quickly followed up with some humor about Adams’ experience in the league. “He’s entering his 13th season,” he noted, suggesting that perhaps he should have just said 13 instead of 40 to keep things friendly.

After the humor subsided, Nacua shifted his focus to praise, discussing how Adams has been a vital part of their wide receiver group, contributing not only on the field but also as a mentor for the younger players.

Both Nacua and Adams are set for their second year together in the Rams’ receiving corps. Last season, they emerged as a formidable duo, instrumental in Matthew Stafford’s impressive showing, which even earned him an MVP title. Collectively, they led the league in total offense, racking up over 6,700 yards and averaging more than 268 yards a game.

Adams stood out as a top receiver last year, leading the league with 14 touchdown receptions. Meanwhile, Nacua topped the charts with 129 receptions and was second in receiving yards with 1,715, just shy of the Seahawks’ Jackson Smith-Njigba, who led with 1,793 yards.

Before joining the Rams, Adams was already recognized as one of the elite receivers while playing for the Green Bay Packers and had a standout 2020 season, where he scored 18 touchdowns, a feat unmatched since Randy Moss in 2007.

After moving around the league, Adams found his current home with the Rams after a trade from the Raiders, and he continues to prove himself as a critical asset, particularly in the red zone.

Reflecting on his growth, Nacua expressed admiration for Adams. “Every day I watch No. 17, I see how much there is to learn,” he said, admiring his teammate’s football IQ and understanding of the game. “It’s always fun to watch him.”
