Puka Nacua meets The Rock at the Moana premiere

Puka Nacua’s offseason has been quite an eventful one, filled with hard work and some introspection.

But this week brought some joyful moments, too.

The Los Angeles Rams wide receiver recently attended the premiere of the new film Moana at the Hollywood Bowl. Accompanied by his mother, he got the chance to meet Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, who is featured in the film. Nacua shared some photos and videos from the evening on Instagram, including a snapshot with Johnson.

For Nacua, this experience was more than just a typical Hollywood event. As a Polynesian athlete, he felt proud to see his cultural heritage represented on such a prominent platform, illuminated by the iconic lights of Los Angeles.

It was also a significant family moment, especially for someone whose bond with his mother is integral to his narrative. The pair had traveled to Samoa last offseason, exploring their roots together for the first time, which he describes as an unforgettable trip.

As he prepares for the upcoming season, Nacua is entering a pivotal phase with the Rams.

On the field, his place in the team is solid. He has quickly made a name for himself as one of the top receivers in the NFL, accumulating over 4,000 receiving yards in just three seasons and earning Pro Bowl and All-Pro honors. His 2025 season was particularly standout, featuring 129 receptions, 1,715 yards, and 10 touchdowns.

The Rams consider him a vital player in Sean McVay’s strategy, one expected to help carve out the next chapter for the franchise.

However, his offseason was not without controversy. Nacua faced substantial public scrutiny after filing a civil lawsuit alleging misconduct related to an incident earlier this year. He also received a fine for comments about NFL officials and reportedly had issues with team discipline.

In response, Nacua has focused on self-improvement. He spent some time at a holistic care facility, returned for a volunteer offseason training activity with Matthew Stafford, and has been working with the team’s therapist. He has mentioned engaging in journaling as a way to handle personal challenges more effectively.

This development is crucial as he eyes his future with the Rams. Nacua is eligible for a significant contract extension, but the team is allegedly looking for a “strong pattern of behavior” before committing to a deal that might exceed $170 million. There’s speculation that the Rams may consider the franchise tag for him instead of a maximum contract.

Currently, Nacua stands out as one of the Rams’ key players while also being at the center of major future decisions for the team.

His experience at the Moana premiere painted a different picture, highlighting a celebration of culture and family as he gears up for training camp.
