Pursuit with federal agents concludes in a crash, leading to a tense standoff with residents in Chicago.

A U.S. Border Patrol chase began in Chicago when a vehicle suspected to be driven by an illegal immigrant collided with a federal patrol car. This incident occurred on the Southeast Side, as reported by authorities.

The vehicle, a red SUV, attempted to escape after the crash, according to a Department of Homeland Security representative. It was said that investigators employed a “certified precision immobilization technique (PIT) maneuver,” which caused the SUV to crash into another vehicle.

Two individuals exited the SUV and fled, prompting federal agents in a white SUV to pursue them. Ultimately, the agents managed to apprehend the two, but by then, the crowd around them had grown increasingly hostile.

Police supervisors arrived around 11 a.m. to help calm the situation. As the federal agents started to withdraw, onlookers began throwing objects at them.

In response, federal agents deployed tear gas canisters, creating a cloud of smoke in the area. Reports indicated that police officers were also impacted by the gas.

During the chaos, two young men, aged 16 and 19, were detained by federal agents on the assumption that they were throwing objects. One witness recounted, “We all ran away as tear gas was thrown into the community. They attacked two people I knew because they were nearby.”

This witness later learned, through a phone call while at work, that her 16-year-old son had been detained by Border Patrol. She recalled being told, “Juanita, you have an emergency. ICE has taken your son. They beat him and body-slammed him.” The child was reportedly held for five hours in a federal building without charges or access to legal representation.

Another individual, Warren King, was also reportedly tackled by agents while trying to assert his citizenship, prompting his family to present his birth certificate after tracking him down. The exact number of confrontations with federal agents remains unclear.

Both the Department of Homeland Security and the Chicago Police Department did not respond to inquiries for comments at the time of this report.

Illinois Governor JB Pritzker criticized the actions of the federal officers toward protesters, labeling their treatment as “abhorrent.” He noted that they were met with tear gas, pepper pellets, and rubber bullets while simply holding signs expressing their views.

Since the initiation of Operation Midway Blitz by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) last month, there have been multiple confrontations between federal agents and demonstrators in Chicago.

The operation’s stated goal is to target criminal illegal aliens who have relocated to Chicago, taking advantage of the local policies said to protect them.
