Python swallows woman whole in Indonesia

A missing woman in Indonesia has been found having her body dismembered by a giant python and eaten alive by locals.

Farida, 45, went missing on Thursday night. Her body was discovered inside the reticulated python on Friday by her husband and other residents of Karempan village in South Sulawesi province, local officials said, according to AFP news agency.

Village chief Suardi Rosi told AFP the search for the missing mother of four began after she failed to return home on Thursday night.

“The husband found his wife’s belongings and became suspicious. Villagers then searched the area and soon found the big-bellied python,” Suardi said.

“They agreed to cut open the python’s belly. As soon as they did, Farida’s head was immediately visible.”

The missing woman was found fully clothed inside the body of a giant snake that was said to be at least 16 feet long.

Her husband, who gave his name as Noni, said he regretted letting his wife go out alone: ”If I had been with my wife that day, the snake would not have dared to touch her,” he told ViralPress.

“I feel sorry for the pain she has had to go through. I feel sorry for our family,” he said.

Authorities say children were attacked and trampled by an aggressive female moose at a local park.

Although such incidents are extremely rare, they are not unheard of in Indonesia.

Last year, residents of Tinangea district in southeast Sulawesi killed a giant 26-foot-long python that they found strangling and eating local farmers, according to AFP news agency.

In 2018, a 54-year-old woman was found dead inside a 23-foot-long snake in Muna town, Southeast Sulawesi.

And the previous year, a farmer in West Sulawesi province went missing and was later found eaten alive by a 13-foot-long python on a palm oil plantation, AFP reported.

Reticulated pythons are thought to be the longest snake in the world and are found in Indonesia, the Philippines, India, and Borneo. According to Reptiles Magazine, the longest reticulated python ever discovered was 32 feet long and weighed a whopping 350 pounds.

Although their natural diet is mainly rodents, large snakes have also been known to eat pigs, civet cats, bear cats, and even primates.

Federal law prohibits the importation of reticulated pythons into the United States except with a permit for zoological, educational, medical or scientific purposes.

Some reptile enthusiasts keep them as pets, but Reptile Supply says their size means they require a lot of space and should only be cared for by dedicated, well-prepared owners.
