Qatar presents Trump with a large jet for use as Air Force One

The royal family of Qatar has proposed donating jumbo jets to the Department of Defense, potentially to enhance the air force. However, White House officials informed Fox News that this offer has not been accepted.

On Sunday, President Trump expressed a strong interest in a $400 million Boeing 747-8 jumbo jet and indicated he would use it until his term ends, planning to transfer it to his presidential library later. Reports suggest Trump’s frustration with Boeing’s delays in delivering new presidential aircraft.

White House officials clarified that the gift wouldn’t be discussed or accepted during Trump’s upcoming visit to Doha. Yet, the administration hasn’t completely ruled out the possibility that Trump might, at some future point, own a plane.

“Gifts from foreign governments are always managed according to all applicable laws,” explained White House Press Director Karoline Leavitt. “The administration is dedicated to full transparency.”

Trump is set to visit the Middle East this week to engage with leaders from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and the United Arab Emirates.

Trump teased a “very big announcement” right before this trip, with Carney commenting on the anticipation surrounding it.

During a visit to the Florida airport in February, Trump reportedly toured the jet, which is known for its luxurious features often referred to as a “flying palace.” The donation is under legal scrutiny, with the White House and the Department of Justice assessing the legality of accepting such costly gifts from abroad.

Currently, the Air Force fleet only has two planes, after Trump approved a $3.9 billion contract with Boeing in 2018 to build two new jets. However, the completion of these jets isn’t expected until 2029.

Boeing stated that they are honored to be constructing the next generation of Air Force One, offering the president a “flying White House” that holds significant value for taxpayers. Trump has actively negotiated on behalf of the country.

When not in office, Trump travels using his personal Boeing 757, known as Trump Force 1. This jet is well-known, often showcased at campaign events.

Trump acquired the 757 in 2011, and it includes luxury features like a gold-plated seat belt buckle. The plane has been upgraded in preparation for the 2024 presidential campaign.
