Significant Trade Partnership Announced at G7 Summit
During the G7 Summit in Evian-les-Bains, France, Qatari Emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani revealed an unprecedented trade partnership with the United States, expected to surpass $1 trillion. This announcement was made alongside President Donald Trump.
“We are very, very proud and happy with this relationship,” the emir expressed. He turned to Trump and added, “Once again, thank you very much for your leadership.”
In response, Trump thanked the emir, saying, “Qatar is going to be investing much more than a trillion dollars in the United States. … You know, we set a record. There’s never been anything like it. No country in history has had that kind of investment.”
Remarkably, Trump suggested that the actual investment from Qatar could reach as high as $19.4 trillion, which is a stark contrast to the previous record of about $3 trillion from another country a decade ago.
“This is a very important deal; there’s still a lot of work to be done, but with this momentum — if we continue like that, Mr. President — I think we can achieve and do great things in the region,” Sheikh Tamim noted, affirming Doha’s readiness to help when needed.
The two leaders also reflected on a prior meeting that helped them “rekindle” their relationship, likely mentioning Trump’s Middle East trip in May 2025, where they discussed significant economic agreements.
“We’ve been friends for a long time,” Trump remarked.
This newly announced deal is expected to be officially signed in Switzerland on Friday.
In addition, during his discussion with the Qatari Emir, Trump commented on the framework agreement indicating that Tehran would face severe repercussions if it pursued nuclear weapons. He emphasized his role in including strict language to prevent Iran from acquiring weapons from external sources, effectively closing a potential loophole in standard non-proliferation agreements.
