The next phase of the Formula 1 season is set to unfold in the breathtaking Styrian Alps at the Red Bull Ring.
This weekend promises to be one for the record books, especially during qualifying.
As qualifying for the Austrian Grand Prix approaches, teams are gearing up to tackle the fast-paced Red Bull Ring amid a notable heatwave affecting Europe. There’s certainly a lot of attention on whether Mercedes might be staging a comeback. Kimi Antonelli, who’s leading the Drivers’ Championship, dominated both FP1 and FP2, pulling ahead of his teammate George Russell in the first session, while outperforming the McLaren pair, Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris, in the second.
But will that strong performance translate into pole position this afternoon?
And, of course, Max Verstappen is a contender that can’t be overlooked, not to mention the reemerging Lewis Hamilton.

10:06: Norris surged ahead with a time of 1:07.259, with Hamilton closely behind at 1:07.290—just 0.031 seconds off.
10:05: Russell initially took the lead with a decent lap of 1:07.811, yet Verstappen and Hajar were both ahead, clocking in at 1:07.407 and 1:07.408, respectively.
10:00: Qualifying is now underway. Ocon is leading, followed by Perez and Bottas from the Cadillac team. However, both Cadillacs seem to struggle with their tight cornering.
9:58: Pirelli has rolled out its softest tire options this week, specifically the C5, C4, and C3 models.
9:55: Are those Dua Lipa commercials for Nespresso starting to get on your nerves? Just asking.
FP3 wrapped up just as the first two practice hours concluded, highlighting Mercedes at the top of the charts.
Interestingly, the frontrunner was someone different this time around.
George Russell topped the final practice session, with Antonelli and Hamilton following. The McLaren duo of Piastri and Norris rounded out the top five.
Russell’s time was merely 0.038 seconds faster than Antonelli, while Hamilton lagged 0.115 seconds behind him. Piastri and Norris trailed a bit further, with Piastri 0.248 seconds off Russell and Norris 0.264 seconds back from Hamilton.
