Queen Elizabeth is reportedly furious after Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan claimed they received blessings for the name of their daughter Lilibet.
According to the Daily Mailclaims a royal aide in a forthcoming biography. “Charles III: The New King. The New Court. The Inside Story.” The late monarch said he was “the angriest I've ever seen him” after the Duke and Duchess of Sussex publicly said they had permission to use their childhood nickname for their second child.
Representatives for the couple did not immediately respond to Page Six's request for comment.
The new revelation comes as a palace insider told the BBC that Queen Elizabeth, who died in September 2022, was “never asked” her opinion on naming Lilibet before she was born in June 2021. This came to light more than two years after he spoke.
“Palace sources told the BBC that the Queen was not asked by Meghan and Harry about the use of her childhood nickname. According to reports, Prince Harry asked the Queen for permission to call the newborn 'Lilibet.' It seems like it was.But a palace source says the Queen said: 'She was never asked.'” BBC Royal Correspondent Johnny Dymond tweeted at that time.
However, royal sources confirmed to Page Six that Prince Harry, 39, called and spoke to his grandmother after Markle, 42, gave birth at Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital.
However, another source added: “Maybe it was a message that she had arrived. We're going to give her your name. That's not really a no-no.” I don't think they asked, but they probably got the information. I guess it is. ”
The Sussexes announced the birth of their baby girl in a statement, saying: “She is more than we ever imagined and we remain grateful for the love and prayers we have felt from around the world. Our Family Thank you for your continued kindness and support during this special time for us.”
They added, “Lili is named after her great-grandmother, Her Majesty the Queen, and her family nickname is Lilibet. Her middle name, Diana, is a tribute to her beloved late grandmother, Princess of Wales. I was selected.”
Notably, Buckingham Palace celebrated Lili's birthday a few days later with a statement on behalf of the royal family.
“The Queen, the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to have received the news that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have welcomed a daughter,” a spokesperson said.
Prince William and Duchess Catherine added to tweet“We are all so delighted to hear the happy news of the birth of baby Lili. Congratulations Harry, Meghan and Archie.”
In addition to Lilibet Diana, now two years old, Prince Harry and Markle are also parents to four-year-old son Archie Harrison, who was born in May 2019.
