UNC Athletic Director Bubba Cunningham chose not to mention Jordon Hudson while discussing Bill Belichick’s involvement amidst potential distractions within the program.
During an interview with ESPN on Tuesday, Cunningham dismissed a report by Pablo Torre claiming that 24-year-old Hudson was banned from UNC athletics. He expressed admiration for Belichick, stating that he exemplifies what it means to be a “professional individual.”
“It was great to see Bill in action,” Cunningham remarked. “He emphasizes practicing like a professional, and he manages a professional organization that helps students learn to excel in every facet of their lives. He’s a determined, professional person, and that’s evident in how he runs his program.”
When asked about potential distractions, Cunningham remarked, “Bill is incredibly focused.”
Later, Cunningham discussed with ESPN that there are rumors circulating about Belichick not coaching during the first week of the 2025 college football season, but he refrained from commenting directly on those reports.
In his Tuesday appearance on “Sports Center,” Belichick stated that Hudson had no connection to his football program. This was his first televised interview since a previous segment on “CBS Sunday Morning,” which aired on April 27 and included various claims regarding someone attempting to influence Belichick’s career for personal gain.
“It really pertains to a personal relationship, and she has nothing to do with UNC football,” Belichick said at the ACC spring meeting.
Belichick mentioned he had addressed the situation with his team and confirmed it was not affecting their focus. “When we met, I spoke to the players. Our goal is to give them the best opportunities both on the field and off,” he explained.
The six-time Super Bowl champion also shared his vision of making North Carolina “the 33rd NFL team” through the implementation of a professional model.
Belichick stressed that he doesn’t feel pressured to meet expectations in his initial season coaching at the college level. “Let’s focus on stacking up good days,” he stated. “A good day is important, and the aim is to build on that day after day. We’re not going to worry about future metrics right now.”
Belichick is set to appear on “Good Morning America” on Friday for an interview with Michael Strahan.
