Quincy Wilson, the 16-year-old American track and field star, announced on social media that he will be competing in the Olympics.
As a member of the 4×400-meter relay team, Wilson will become the youngest athlete to represent the United States at the Olympics. Jim Ryun (1964) and Erion Knighton (2021), both 17 years old, were the youngest U.S. athletes to ever compete in the Olympics.
“We’re going to the Olympics #paris2024 #teamusa,” Wilson posted on Instagram on Saturday.

The team has not been officially announced, but Wilson coach Joe Lee told USA Today on Sunday that he “got a call directly from USA Track and Field.”
“Then I called Quincy and told him the good news,” Lee continued.

Wilson, a star athlete at the Bullis School in Potomac, Maryland, just outside Washington, D.C., made a splash at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Oregon when she not only set the under-18 world record in the 400 meters, but also beat her own record that same weekend.
On June 21, Wilson broke Justin Robinson’s record of 44.84 seconds in the 400 meters with a time of 44.66 seconds. Then, on June 23, Wilson broke his own record of 44.59 seconds in the 400 meters semifinals.

“Athletics-wise, I’ve never been a happier day in my life,” Wilson said after breaking her own under-18 world record in the semifinals.
While participating in the team event will be a once-in-a-lifetime moment for Wilson, he was also very close to making the U.S. team as an individual runner.
Although he finished sixth in the 400-meter final at the U.S. National Championships, USA Track and Field clearly saw everything they needed in the young runner and added him to their 4×400 team.
It remains to be seen which legs Wilson will run with his American teammates in Paris next month.

But no matter where he is on the track, Wilson will be giving it his all while carrying the baton, as the U.S. team will be counting on him and his teammates to perform to bring home a medal.
