Quincy Wilson, 16, lamenting return to HS after Olympic gold medal

For American track and field star Quincy Wilson, his fall slump is looking like it’s going to be even worse than his summer.

The 16-year-old athlete, who won gold in the 4×400-meter relay in Paris, posted a photo of herself with her medal on Saturday and lamented that she will soon have to return to high school.

“Jeez I actually got to go back to school in 2 1/2 weeks,” Wilson wrote on X, adding a broken heart emoji.

Wilson, who attends the Bliss School in Maryland, became the youngest male track and field athlete to compete in the Olympics when he helped the U.S. team reach the final of the 4×400-meter relay.

He did not run on Saturday but was part of the team that ran the qualifying round and won the gold medal.

In the final, the team of Christopher Bailey, Vernon Norwood, Bryce Dedmon and Rhy Benjamin beat Botswana by 0.1 seconds to win the gold medal and set an Olympic record, with Wilson cheering from the stands.

The Chesapeake, Virginia, native is also likely to compete in the 2028 Games in Los Angeles.

He currently holds the U-18 world records in the indoor and outdoor 400 meters, as well as the American high school record in both.

Bailey recorded a split time of 47.27 seconds on the leadoff leg at the Olympic Trials.
