Quinn and Jack Hughes Discuss Social Media Buzz After Olympic Victory

Gold medalists from the U.S. Olympic hockey team, Quinn and Jack Hughes, shared their thoughts on the social media chatter following their team’s recent call with President Donald Trump, which gained a lot of attention after their 2-1 overtime win against Canada at the Milan-Cortina Games.

In a social media video, Trump and the men’s team were seen having a lighthearted moment during the call, where they invited him to the upcoming State of the Union address. The president joked about needing to invite the U.S. women’s hockey team, who also won gold, or “I think I’d probably be impeached.”

While on “Good Morning America,” co-host George Stephanopoulos asked the brothers if they planned to attend the State of the Union, noting that the women’s team had to decline due to scheduling conflicts.

Quinn Hughes, who plays defense for the Minnesota Wild, seemed a bit hesitant but expressed his excitement: “I don’t know how much to say, but yeah. I’m looking forward to going. It’s not something we get to do every Tuesday, so it’s going to be special for us.” He also acknowledged the buzz around both teams: “But I’m glad you mentioned the women’s team again. We’re very happy for them.” He mentioned that they’ve spent significant time training with the women’s team, really getting to know them. That shared experience added depth to their connection.

Jack added that while there have been a lot of headlines, they share some good memories, like hanging out with the women’s hockey team until 3 AM. His voice trailed off as he spoke, and when Stephanopoulos joked about him needing more hot water for his throat, the room filled with laughter.

Before appearing on the show, both Jack and Quinn celebrated with their team at E11EVEN, a popular Miami nightclub, where they reportedly spent over $150,000 on champagne. It was a big celebration after a significant win. When asked about visiting the White House, Jack shared that they were eager to go, no matter the political views. “Yeah, we’re excited. Everything’s very political. We’re athletes,” he said, emphasizing their pride in representing the country.

Jack conveyed his sentiments about the women’s team too: “I think our relationship with them was very close while we were in the Olympic Village. We were in the cafeteria with them at 3:30 AM after we won the gold medal.” He noted that there’s a shared camaraderie, despite some negative chatter surrounding their interactions.

The brothers’ mother, Ellen Hughes, who works with the USA women’s ice hockey team, addressed the viral video, emphasizing unity within sports. “At the end of the day, it’s about the country and the moment,” she reflected. “These players, male and female, can bring great unity.” She spoke to the connections formed within the Olympic environment, highlighting how both teams root for each other.

Jack capped off the day’s excitement by scoring the winning goal, ending the U.S.’s 46-year drought for gold in men’s hockey.
