Quinn Ewers had a chance to put to rest rumors of a possible transfer from Texas before the Longhorns' biggest game of the season.
Instead he remained with his mother.
On3 Sports reported last week that an unnamed school entered the transfer portal and offered Ewers $6 million to play as the team's quarterback.
When asked about speculation Wednesday, the star QB dodged questions about his future. Texas prepares to take on Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl, with a trip to the College Football Playoff Championship Game on the line.
“So right now, I'm just not worried about all that stuff,” Ewers told reporters Wednesday. According to Dan Wolken of USA Today. “I mean, people can say all they want to say, but you know, at this point I'm just focused on Friday.”
What's even more interesting is that Wolken asked a follow-up question asking if the final results of the University of Texas semifinals or finals would be factored into determining the 2025 season.
“That's a great question,” Ewers said, before refocusing his focus on the Cotton Bowl.
Ewers, a redshirt junior, has already transferred once in college from Ohio State to Texas prior to the 2022 season.
No matter what happens in the College Football Playoff, Ewers has one more year of college eligibility remaining or could declare for the 2025 NFL Draft, where he is available. He will be one of the top quarterback candidates.
He had a great 2024 season, throwing for 3,189 yards, 29 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions, including two College Football Playoff wins over Texas.
Ewers missed two games with an oblique injury, and his likely successor, Arch Manning, took over under center.
Manning, a redshirt freshman, has already pledged allegiance to Texas for next season.
He appeared in nine games for the Longhorns this season, throwing for 939 yards with nine touchdowns and two interceptions.
