Quinn Ewers throws three touchdowns as Texas dominates Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Mich. — Quinn Ewers threw for 246 yards and three touchdowns and No. 3 Texas beat No. 10 Michigan 31-12 on Saturday.

The Longhorns (2-0) moved the ball freely through the air and on the ground against a defending champion team whose turnover-prone offense couldn't throw or run the ball effectively.

The Wolverines (1-1) had their three-game winning streak ended in the first regular-season meeting between the two traditional college football powers.

Michigan had won a Big Ten-record 29 straight regular-season games, 23 straight at home and a nation-best 16 straight games since losing to TCU in the 2022 College Football Playoff.

Davis Warren completed 22 of 33 attempts for 204 yards, plus one touchdown and two interceptions when the game was out of reach, and preseason All-American tight end Colston Loveland had eight receptions for 70 yards and one unforced fumble for the underdog Wolverines.

Texas took control early in the highly anticipated game, turning the bustling Big House into a quiet stadium.

After the game, linebacker David Gbenda tried to plant a white Texas flag with his orange longhorn on the corn block M at midfield, but it didn't stick in the turf.

It was the only play the Longhorns couldn't make that day.

Texas led 24-3 at halftime and didn't allow a touchdown until Warren threw a 31-yard pass to Semaj Morgan with 1:54 left in the half.

Ewers threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Gunner Helm in the first quarter. The senior tight end finished with seven catches for 98 yards, setting a career high, and showing off his skills to the 15 NFL teams in attendance.

The Wolverines answered with a field goal on their ensuing attempt to pull within four points with just minutes left on a cloudy, windy afternoon.

Jerick Gibson had a 7-yard touchdown run midway through the second quarter, helping Texas average 4.5 yards per carry and gain 143 total yards.

Ewers completed a 5-yard touchdown pass to Matthew Golden late in the second quarter and a 7-yard pass to Jaedon Blue in the third quarter as the Longhorns cruised to a near-consecutive victory with little resistance.

The former Ohio State quarterback completed 24 of 36 passes without an interception in a 52-0 win over Colorado State a week ago.
