Update on Jets Cornerback Quantez Stigers
The Jets received some positive news regarding cornerback Quantez Stigers, who fainted during practice on Tuesday and was transported to the hospital via ambulance.
According to Jets coach Aaron Glenn, Stigers is doing better but remains under concussion protocol due to some symptoms. Glenn shared, “Really good news for Stigers. He was released from the hospital yesterday and is doing well. He’s currently in the concussion protocol after showing symptoms, so we’re treating it just like we would for any of our players in this situation. I’m really proud of that. I spoke with him last night; he seemed fine. I reached out to his wife as well, and she’s taking care of him, which is reassuring.”
However, Glenn did not specify what led to Stigers passing out, noting that it could be related to a hit he took, dehydration, or something else entirely. “I mean, he’s being polite, so something must have just happened,” Glenn remarked. “I can’t pinpoint when it occurred exactly, but honestly, as long as he’s going to be fine, that’s what matters most to me.”
Tuesday’s joint practice with the Buccaneers took a concerning turn when Stigers collapsed on the sidelines. Practice was halted as players from both teams surrounded him, kneeling in support. Paramedics arrived, treating Stigers before he was placed on a stretcher and taken to a local hospital, from which he was discharged late that night. Stigers plays an important role on special teams and serves as a backup cornerback.
In a separate note, Glenn expressed his interest in evaluating the defense against quarterback Baker Mayfield in a two-minute practice. He and Tampa coach Todd Bowles agreed to shorten Wednesday’s practice to focus on this. Unfortunately for the Jets, Mayfield had a strong performance, completing five passes and leading the Buccaneers 68 yards for a touchdown, highlighting a lackluster coverage from the Jets.
“We definitely let them score in under two minutes,” Glenn admitted. “That’s why I wanted to see how they’d respond against this team; I knew how Baker would maneuver in these situations, so I made adjustments.” The Jets’ offense also faced difficulties during their two-minute drill and couldn’t manage to put points on the board.
The only noteworthy moment came from tight end Jeremy Ruckert, who made a remarkable catch, leaping to grab a pass from Geno Smith over Anthony Winfield Jr. Smith described the play as “spectacular,” praising Ruckert’s performance throughout camp. “He’s someone I trust a lot; he’s basically a safety net for us,” Smith added.
