A former senior adviser to Kamala Harris made some telling remarks Tuesday night about the future of the Democratic Party by revealing that some factions of the party, particularly the young left-wingers, are still obsessed with racial identity.
Earlier on Tuesday, Democratic Virginia Rep. Gerry Connolly narrowly defeated New York Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez to serve as the ranking member of the House Oversight Committee, a position that will prove vital in the Democrats’ resistance to the incoming Trump administration and whether they retake the House in the 2026 midterms. MSNBC’s Joy Reid addressed the outcome on her show, along with former Harris adviser Alencia Johnson, who argued that her party should be led by “young women of color.” (Stream the Daily Caller’s ‘Demand For Hate‘ documentary HERE)
“The party should be led by young women of color … Women of color are the reasons that Democrats do actually have some of these wins. And, we know how to communicate in ways that reach that more moderate voter but also that progressive voter,” Johnson said.

Reid pushed the same notion that minority women are magically blessed with superior communication skills and ought to lead the party following a crushing defeat to Donald Trump.
“AOC and Jasmine Crockett are probably two of their best communicators. You have people that have the skills, but they are not pushing them forward. Ayanna Presley is one of your strongest communicators. Why isn’t she pushed forward,” Reid said, referring to Democratic Reps. Jasmine Crockett of Texas and Ayanna Presley of Massachusetts.
Only on the airwaves of MSNBC do Democratic strategists such as Johnson exhibit such a disconnect with the American electorate. Maybe, Reid and Johnson’s comments would have sounded apt if they were made a couple of years ago, during the rise of Black Lives Matter in the late 2010s and early 2020s. But it’s nearly 2025 now, and Americans have long since moved on from the divisive, toxic, race-focused politics of that era.
This is good news for conservatives, of course. The more Democratic strategists double down on identity politics — maybe because it benefits their career — the more alienated everyday Americans — black, white, Hispanic, Asian — will become. So long as people like Johnson and other Democratic operatives remain sequestered in their delusional media bubbles, their party will continue to fail, both in its resistance to the new Trump administration and in its fight during the midterms.
