Rachael Ray says she’s been ‘bashed’ for choice to not have kids

Rachael Ray stands by her decision not to have children.

Celebrity chefs at 56 include Bob Harper “I'll sleep when I'm dead.” On Tuesday's podcast, they bonded over not being parents.

“I chose not to have children. God loves everyone who has children,” Harper, 59, said.

“Me too. And for decades I've been bashed for that,” Ray added.

Both stars said they were happy taking care of pets instead of real humans.

Ray, who owns the dog Bella with her husband John Cusimano, said the dog “never talks back” and “always wants to hug you.” She also said that owning a dog “brings a ray of light.”

“It gets me through the really dark days. For me, if I'm having a bad day or I'm sick like my dog, I can come home and literally crawl into bed under the blankets with my dog. “I feel the best,” she explained.

Ray married Cusimano, 57, in 2005.

The former “Rachel Ray Show” host previously opened up about her decision not to have children. 2009 interview on ABC's “Nightline.”

“I'm 40 years old and I think I have a huge amount of time that I have to spend working,” she said. “Personally, I think I need more time to feel like I can be a good mother to my child.”

“I feel like I'm a borderline good mother to my dog,” Ray added. “So I can't even imagine if it was a human baby…I feel like that's not just unfair to the child, but also to the people I'm working with.”

When interviewer Cynthia McFadden asked Ray if she felt “something was missing” by not being a parent, she replied: Not really. ”

Ray started his podcast last month. In her debut book, the entrepreneur revealed details about her married life, including how she and Cushimano “are always having big screaming matches.”

But Ray said she thinks the couple's fights are “healthy” for their relationship.

“We have never apologized to each other,” she further explained. “In the end, I pat him on the butt and he kisses me on the head, and that's what it feels like. That's an apology. It kind of made sense.” “I still like your ass.'' “I still like your head.'' I'm kind of in that zone. ”

Ray also revealed that he thought Cusimano was gay when they met, but was immediately attracted to him.
