A Fox News host has expressed gratitude to President Donald Trump for his efforts to address crime in Washington, DC, following an incident involving her husband’s home.
Rachel Campos-Duffy, co-host of Fox & Friends Weekend, shared a video on Tuesday showing a man approaching what she identified as her husband’s residence in the capital. Campos-Duffy is married to Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy.
She wrote, “Yesterday, at my husband’s Washington, D.C. residence, I caught a porch thief with a security camera. It’s frustrating how easily they think they can get away with it. Finally, someone is willing to tackle the crime in our nation’s Capitol. Thank you, President Trump.” She also tagged some friends in her post.
The video shows a man loitering near the house, looking around and eventually taking an Amazon package from the porch. Interestingly, he isn’t wearing a mask, which suggests a certain audacity about his actions.
Coincidentally, this footage surfaced just after President Trump announced that he would intensify efforts against the ongoing crime wave in Washington, DC, as reported by Breitbart News. He declared, “This is a new day for DC, and we are reclaiming our capital. Using my authority as President, I’m invoking Section 740 of the District of Columbia Home Rules Act to put the DC Metropolitan Police Department under direct federal control.”
In a social media post, Trump addressed issues in the capital, stating, “Crime, savages, filth… I hope our capital is great again!” He added that the trend of targeting innocent people has to end.
The Washington DC Police Union has endorsed Trump’s move to take federal control over local governance amid escalating crime rates. Moreover, the U.S. Secretary of Defense mentioned that they are mobilizing the National Guard and additional special forces to aid in addressing these concerns.
At a press conference on the same day, U.S. Attorney Janeine Pillo stated that “young thugs” are responsible for an alarming number of violent crimes in the area. She emphasized the need to reconsider the laws set by the DC Council and called for a reevaluation of cash bail policies, asserting that they must act decisively to restore safety for law-abiding citizens.
