Maryland Sheriff Jeff Gahler, who is investigating the August 2023 murder of Rachel Morin, is investigating the February 22 killing of Augusta University student Laken Riley on the University of Georgia campus. In response, he suggested that pedestrians “break” their daily lives.
Morin, 37, a mother of five, and Riley, 22, a nursing student, were both killed while jogging on the popular sidewalk.
“Following Rachel’s incident, we made a number of recommendations: Break your routine, don’t get stuck in your habits. Don’t go on the trail… be there at the same time every day,” Harford said. Morin went missing on August 5, 2023, while running along the Ma and Pa Trail, a pedestrian-only trail in Bel Air, a quiet and usually safe town about 45 miles northeast of Baltimore. It became unknown. Authorities found her body the next day in what Gahler previously described as a “horrific” criminal homicide.
In February, the Harford County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Morin was the suspect in the case, described as a Hispanic man, based on witness statements and video footage of the suspect from an alleged home invasion in March 2023 in Los Angeles. Presented a composite sketch of.

Social media users have noted that not only are the circumstances in which both victims were found dead similar, but Riley’s murder suspect also somewhat matches the description of the unidentified suspect in Morin’s case. Compare these two incidents.

However, Gahler does not believe the two murders are related, based on the evidence his office has examined so far.

“Sadly, we are monitoring cases across the country… whenever there is something tragic. And in this case, because there are some similarities… very safe There’s a young woman walking down the street…jogging, as in our case, with Rachel Morin, a mother of five who went jogging in a very safe area and was brutally murdered.” said Gahler. “And similar to what we’re hearing in the Georgia case, based on some of the DNA evidence we’ve collected, we know that our suspect is Hispanic.”

“People have seen the images we have been able to release, including sketches, in recent weeks and believe that the suspect looks somewhat similar. [to Ibarra]”So, certainly since then,” the sheriff said. Harford County Sheriff’s Office It is unclear what brought the suspect from Los Angeles to Maryland, but we do know that he was in Bel Air before Morin’s murder. They are asking members of the public who may have seen or communicated with the suspect in the summer of 2023 to come forward. Authorities believe he still poses a threat to the public.
