Arrest of Rachel Morin’s Ex-Partner
Rachel Morin’s former partner, Matthew McMahon, was arrested Tuesday at his home in Old Line on charges related to child pornography. Morin, a mother of five, was brutally raped and murdered by an illegal immigrant in a case that captured Maryland’s attention and ignited political discussions.
McMahon, who is the father of Morin’s eldest daughter, reportedly became the focus of an investigation by the Harford County Child Advocacy Center in September. This investigation led to his arrest, as detailed by local news.
According to reports, investigators found numerous explicit videos and images on McMahon’s computer, some involving children as young as five. One particularly disturbing video allegedly depicted a young girl engaging in a sexual act with an adult.
Charging documents revealed that McMahon had at least ten files showcasing girls aged between five and fourteen engaged in various sexual activities.
McMahon has a child with Morin, who was tragically found dead on the Ma & Pa Trail in Bel Air, Maryland, in 2023. Her body was discovered naked, showing signs of a violent struggle, including a 20-foot blood trail leading to the location where she was left.
Nearly a year post-Morin’s murder, authorities apprehended Victor Martinez Hernandez, a suspected gang member from El Salvador. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole in August 2025.
Upon hearing that the suspect in Morin’s murder had been caught, McMahon recalled his efforts to reclaim the area for her family. He mentioned, “I brought flowers and placed them on the rock at the trailhead,” expressing deep emotions about visiting the site.
During the murder trial, McMahon supported Morin’s family and her five children, including Faye, who was 20 years old at the time. When the news broke about Martinez-Hernandez’s arrest, Faye was pregnant with her first child, marking a bittersweet moment for the family.
McMahon had remarked that Faye should have been able to share the news with her mom, feeling the absence of Morin’s presence during such significant moments.
Morin’s children, ranging from 9 to 15 years old, each provided testimony during Hernandez’s sentencing. Faye took the lead, being the only one whose statement was read aloud in court. In an audio recording, she described her mother as “kind, strong, honest, determined, and funny,” reminiscing about the life she shared with her siblings.
As for McMahon, he is currently held without bail at the Harford County Detention Center, with his trial set for January, according to court records.
