Radical Eco-Activists Throw Soup At Van Gogh Painting

On Friday, environmental activists from the subversive climate change activist group threw soup at a Van Gogh painting at the National Gallery in London, England, with footage posted on the show's social media.

According to the video, one demonstrator said those jailed for climate change activism were “on the right side of history.”

Van Gogh's painting was also targeted in October 2022, when two other activists, Phoebe Plummer and Anna Holland, threw soup pasted on the wall of the National Gallery. BBC, Holland and Plummer jailed after being found guilty of criminal damage reported Friday.

According to the BBC, Holland was sentenced to 20 months in prison and Plummer to two years.

Roger Hallam, co-founder of Just Stop Oil and Extinction Rebellion, was sentenced to five years in prison in July for organizing illegal protests. Prosecutors alleged Hallam and four other defendants conspired to block London's M25 motorway and disrupt traffic in November 2022.

Just Stop Oil has been the subject of several incidents of vandalism. Climate change groups spray-painted a private jet in June and vandalized a famous piece of art at London's National Gallery in November 2023.

Two climate change activists from Just Stop Oil also defaced Stonehenge, one of Britain's famous landmarks, with paint in June. The group's activists have disrupted major sporting events, including suspending a protest at the Wimbledon tennis match in July 2023 and the Travelers Championship golf tournament in June. Just Stop Oil did not immediately respond to a request for comment from the Daily Caller News Foundation.
