Shedur Sanders is currently listed as the backup quarterback for the Cleveland Browns, following recent trades involving Joe Flacco and Dillon Gabriel to the Cincinnati Bengals. Starting his rookie season as the third quarterback, Sanders witnessed Gabriel struggle in Week 8 with two interceptions during a heavy loss to the New England Patriots.
Even with the Browns limping into Week 10 with a 2-6 record, it seems the team’s management isn’t planning on making any changes to the starting quarterback position, leaving Sanders on the sidelines.
This decision surprised some, including Cleveland ESPN Radio host Tony Rizzo. He questioned why a player who was a first-round draft pick—considered skilled—hasn’t seen the field for a struggling team. “What gives?” Rizzo asked. “The team hasn’t even given him any practice reps, and that falls on the coach, right? Stefanski might need to provide some answers, or he might find himself out of a job.” The apparent lack of playing time for Sanders puzzled Rizzo and created buzz among fans and commentators alike.
Rizzo speculated that there might be underlying issues regarding Sanders’ readiness or perhaps his standing with the team. “Someone must not like him, or why isn’t he ready? He’s been around since April,” he expressed, frustrated by the situation. “It’s so confusing; how can he not be on the field?”
Sanders played in a couple of preseason games but was reported as a limited participant in practice, still recovering from a back injury. As the Browns prepare to face the New York Jets this Sunday, many are left wondering about the team’s strategy moving forward.
