AUSTIN, TX —
Rahm Emanuel, the former U.S. Ambassador, has been vocal about his aspirations regarding a potential presidential run as the 2028 election approaches. As he considers this possibility, the Democratic candidate field seems to keep growing.
During a recent talk with Fox News Digital at the Texas Tribune Festival, Emanuel highlighted three qualities he believes would set him apart from other candidates, should he decide to enter the race: “candor, authenticity, and strength.”
Emanuel’s background in Democratic politics is notably extensive. He has served as an advisor to Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama, was a congressman, and held the position of Chicago’s mayor, before taking on the role of U.S. ambassador to Japan during the Biden administration.
If he were to become president, he claims he is prepared to hit the ground running. “I know what to do on day one,” he asserted. “I’m not going to say what you might want to hear. I’ll tell you what you need to know to navigate the difficult choices ahead. Time is not on our side. We are at a critical juncture. Too much time has been spent trying to bring back an outdated past. We should focus on a future that is inclusive for everyone.”
“I plan to be straightforward about this. With a diverse range of experience at various levels of government, I believe I can start delivering results immediately. We literally don’t have a day to waste,” he added.
Despite his ambition, Emanuel faces a challenging path to secure the Democratic nomination, as current polling data does not place him among the top ten candidates. At present, former Vice President Kamala Harris leads the pack with approximately 25% support from Democratic voters.
California Governor Gavin Newsom, who has recently made headlines for stating he would not run for president if Harris entered the race, follows Harris with around 14% in polling.
Just behind Newsom are former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg with close to 13%, New York Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez at nearly 11%, and Georgia Senator Jon Ossoff around 9%.
