Rai Benjamin wants to sign one-day contract with Giants

Mount Vernon native and Giants fan Ray Benjamin said he would like to sign a one-day contract to play for his favorite football team.

The U.S. Team track and field star, a three-time Olympic gold medalist and two-time world champion, said that’s one of his goals in an interview with longtime ESPN anchor Linda Cohn on Friday.

“I just want to sign a one-day contract. That’s it. One-day contract. I don’t want anything else. Just a one-day contract,” he said.

Cone asked which side of the ball he would play on.

“I’ll play offense, please,” Benjamin replied with a laugh. “If you need me, let me know right now. I’ve got some pairs of cleats in the closet right now.”

Benjamin won two gold medals as part of the U.S. Olympic team at the 2024 Paris Olympics, including the individual 400-meter hurdles in 46.46 seconds.

He also won gold in the 4x400m relay with Christopher Bailey, Vernon Norwood and Bryce Dedmon.

Benjamin also won gold in the 4×400 meters at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

Benjamin’s two world titles came in the 4x400m relay, in 2019 and 2023 respectively.

He also won an Olympic silver medal, two World Championship silver medals and a bronze medal in the 400m hurdles.
