The Raiders Seek a New Quarterback

The Las Vegas Raiders are on the hunt for a new quarterback.

He’s not exactly a starter, but he’s certainly more than just a prospect.

Pete Carroll commented on the Raiders’ quarterback situation after Aidan O’Connell suffered a wrist injury in the last preseason game, which he described as a “significant blow.”

Carroll acknowledged that O’Connell’s recovery might take some time. The team is now focusing on finding an experienced quarterback to back up their new starter, Geno Smith.

According to Carroll, “We’re exploring all possibilities right now.” He added, “I can’t reveal too much about what we’re looking for specifically. I don’t want to show our hand.”

Aside from Smith and O’Connell, the Raiders have added Cammyr from North Dakota, selected in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft.

It seems Carroll and the team are banking on having solid experience behind Smith, especially since they hope to reach the playoffs for the first time since 2021.

Carroll mentioned, “We have a rookie, and rookies don’t play much usually, so we need experienced players who can step up.”

He also discussed the team’s competitive spirit lately, stating, “I’m always looking to add more competition. We’re striving to push everyone to earn their spot.” He further explained they are giving players the chance to prove themselves alongside higher-tier talent, emphasizing that fostering competition is key.

As the season approaches, the Raiders’ strategy seems to reflect their mindset following O’Connell’s injury.

The regular season kicks off on September 7th against the Patriots in New England.
