Senator Jessica Ramos Endorses Andrew Cuomo
State Senator Jessica Ramos, a vocal opponent of Mayor Andrew Cuomo, has officially endorsed her former governor, marking a significant shift in her campaign on Friday morning.
The Senator representing progressive Queens will lend her support to Cuomo during an event scheduled for 11 a.m. at the carpenter’s union headquarters, as confirmed by her campaign.
This endorsement comes despite her previously critical stance towards the former governor, who stepped down in 2021 following multiple allegations of sexual harassment.
“People might be nice to Cuomo in person, but let’s not forget about the lives impacted—the women he harmed and the individuals left without mental health services or housing,” Ramos, 39, expressed on social media back in March.
Interestingly, just the month before, Ramos had criticized Cuomo, suggesting that discussions in political circles pointed to concerns about his mental acuity. “I don’t think New York City can handle a Biden moment,” she commented, alluding to President Biden’s cognitive challenges. “There’s a reason he avoids certain questions; it’s like he can’t recall specifics about his actions in Congress,” she mused.
When prompted to elaborate on her observations regarding Cuomo’s mental state, she reiterated her concerns. The Cuomo campaign, however, responded with a disparaging remark about Ramos, implying she may have been intoxicated at the time. “You can take my eye-rolling as a quote,” said Rich Azzopaldi, emphasizing that this was a desperate attempt from the far-left, who are struggling and polling at only 3%.
Despite her past critiques and a campaign that garnered some name recognition, Ramos did not secure the Democratic nomination. Her fundraising efforts fell short, barely reaching $300,000, which prevented her from tapping into the city’s public matching funds. Currently, she holds just $9,000 in campaign funds.
