After a failed stint in Las Vegas, Jimmy Garoppolo reportedly has a new home.

The Los Angeles Rams have reportedly agreed to take the quarterback on a one-year deal.

The deal all but guarantees Garoppolo will back up Matthew Stafford, a move head coach Sean McVay said was necessary.

The Rams selected two-time national champion Stetson Bennett in the fourth round of last year’s draft, and he spent the preseason with the Rams. However, in mid-September he was placed on the reserve/non-football injured list.

“Out of respect for him and the situation, we will keep all the details internal,” McVeigh told reporters at the time. “And I’m not going to give any additional information or anything on that because I want to be able to do that out of respect for the situation.”

But last month, McVay announced the news that the Rams “do not have a backup quarterback.”

The manager previously expressed cautious optimism about Bennett, who remains on the reserve/non-football player list.

Mr. McVeigh said he would contact Mr. Bennett “at the appropriate time.”

“And you know, where are you and what do we think is best for him and our football team to bring him back into this ecosystem?” he said. “Those are going to be conversations that we’re going to have, and I think that will become clearer once we have a better idea of what to do with it.”

The Las Vegas Raiders signed Garoppolo to a three-year, $72.75 million contract last offseason to replace the departed Derek Carr, but the move backfired almost from the beginning.

Garoppolo failed a physical and required surgery on a previously injured foot, forcing him to redo his contract, and even after getting healthy, he was unable to find the success he once had with the San Francisco 49ers. Ta.

The Raiders benched Garoppolo midway through last season after Antonio Pierce replaced fired head coach Josh McDaniels. Pierce’s addition improved the Raiders to 5-4, but many players begged for his return, so the team removed Pierce’s interim tag and made him the permanent head coach.

As a starter for the San Francisco 49ers, Garoppolo appeared in three NFC Championships and one Super Bowl, but made only six starts in Las Vegas, throwing for 1,205 yards, seven touchdowns, and nine interceptions. He was then placed on the bench after a coaching change.

Garoppolo was suspended for two games next season last month for violating the NFL’s performance-enhancing substance regulations.
