Rams Cornerback Jaylen Watson Injured Against Broncos

In Denver, the Los Angeles Rams took command of the game against the Denver Broncos on Sunday night, leading 16-0 by halftime.

However, their defensive plans hit a snag just before the break.

Starting cornerback Jaylen Watson sustained a right shoulder injury late in the second quarter at Empower Field at Mile High, which sidelined him for the rest of the game.

It happened while Watson was trying to make a play and got his arm caught up with a Broncos receiver near the sideline. He immediately signaled for help, lying on the ground in clear distress as the Rams’ medical team hurried onto the field.

After receiving assistance, Watson was carted off to the locker room for X-rays and further evaluation. When the Rams returned for the second half, it was confirmed that he wouldn’t be rejoining the game.

This injury posed a significant challenge for a Rams secondary that had been performing well during the first half.

Emmanuel Forbes Jr. stepped in to take Watson’s place alongside All-Pro cornerback Trent McDuffie, while Josh Wallace was also rotated into certain defensive set-ups. Forbes was positioned as the top backup corner before the season, and Wallace brought additional experience to a secondary that the Rams had actively restructured, trading for McDuffie and signing Watson, both of whom have Super Bowl experience from their time with the Kansas City Chiefs.

The injury couldn’t have come at a worse moment for Watson, although the score somewhat cushioned the impact.

The Rams now face the challenge of closing out the game without one of their key defensive players, a move aimed at frustrating opposing quarterbacks all season.
