Rams fall to Falcons after a questionable non-call on pass interference halts final drive

Rams Lose Heartbreaker to Falcons Amid Controversial Call

The Rams fell short against the Falcons in a closely contested game, losing just moments after commentators Joe Buck and Russell Yuke suggested that a significant penalty was overlooked during the final drive.

With 16 seconds remaining in the fourth quarter at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, Matthew Stafford launched a deep pass from his own 35-yard line to Tutu Atwell, aiming for an incredible comeback.

However, the ball slipped through Atwell’s hands and went incomplete. Before Stafford could reposition himself for the last 10 seconds, Buck and Yuke scrutinized the play. They expressed strong opinions that a flag should have been thrown for pass interference against Falcons cornerback Dee Alford.

“He’s holding that arm down,” Yuke commented while reviewing the footage. “I think that was pass interference.”

“He was holding Tutu Atwell’s arm,” echoed Buck, candidly adding, “I don’t have a phone.”

When Troy Aikman, the color commentator, questioned this assessment, Yuke remained firm.

“It’s definitely tough in real-time since you see them pushing each other, but that’s a foul,” he stated.

On the very next play, the Rams seemed poised to tie when Puka Nacua made an incredible one-handed sideline catch for 30 yards.

However, after review, officials ruled that he did not successfully catch the ball. The Rams ultimately lost 27-24.

This defeat dropped Los Angeles to an 11-5 record, potentially harming Stafford’s MVP candidacy, especially after throwing three interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown.

The Rams are set to face the Cardinals next Sunday as they gear up for the playoffs as a wildcard team. The Falcons, meanwhile, are wrapping up their season with a home game against New Orleans after missing out on the postseason.
