Rams' Matthew Stafford outpaces Tom Brady with touchdown pass

Matthew Stafford Sets Record Against Carolina Panthers

In a notable moment early in the first quarter of the game on Sunday, Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford achieved an NFL milestone while facing the Carolina Panthers.

During the Rams’ opening drive, Stafford went 4 for 5, finishing a drive that spanned six plays and covered 35 yards with a 4-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Davante Adams. This marked his 28th touchdown pass without an interception, breaking the previous record held by Tom Brady.

He connected with Adams, Puka Nacua, and Colby Parkinson throughout that initial drive. However, things took a turn for Stafford on the second drive when Panthers defensive back Nick Scott intercepted a pass in the end zone. Subsequently, he threw another interception to Mike Jackson Sr., who returned it for a touchdown.

Prior to this game, Stafford was among the favorites for the NFL MVP award, having led the league with 30 touchdown passes and only two interceptions. He’s now among a rare group, joining Patrick Mahomes as the only players with at least 30 touchdown passes and fewer than two interceptions by Week 13 of the season.

At that point, the Rams stood at 9-2 for the season, hoping to secure their 10th win and solidify their position in the NFC.

Interestingly, there were additional records within reach for Stafford. For instance, he had the opportunity to become the third player in NFL history with at least 25 pass attempts and no interceptions over nine straight games. Furthermore, he could have been the fourth player to achieve six consecutive games of multiple touchdown passes without any interceptions.
