Rams suffer hamstring injury to offensive lineman against Chiefs

Kansas City Preseason Update

The Rams faced an unexpected setback during their preseason opener against the Chiefs on Saturday when rookie right tackle Keigen Trost sustained a hamstring injury.

Trost, who was selected in the third round from Missouri State, had been one of the standout players during training camp. He started the game strong, but unfortunately, was ruled out for the remainder of the matchup due to the injury. The exact severity of his condition is still unclear, so it’s something to keep an eye on moving forward.

He had begun to establish himself as an important asset for the Rams, showing promising depth at both tackle positions. His performance thus far hinted that he might be on track for a starting role in the near future, which would be a significant boost for an offense that relies heavily on the health of its key players as well as the reliability of those backing them up. Saturday’s game was a chance for him to build on that momentum, but the injury unfortunately cut his day short.

Head coach Sean McVay has noted Trost’s early contributions, expressing optimism about his potential. “He seems really consistent and comfortable being coached. You can see the agility and flexibility to play on either side of the line,” McVay mentioned recently. “It’s sink or swim, but he’s good at keeping his head above water. There’s a lot of great players in that room to learn from.”

The versatility Trost brings is certainly valuable, and it will be interesting to see whether this injury leads to a brief pause in what has been an impressive rookie summer or if it results in a longer absence. In any case, the Rams will be watching his recovery closely.
