Senator Rand Paul Criticizes FCC President Over Kimmel Comments

Senator Rand Paul has voiced strong disapproval of FCC Chairman Brendan Carr’s remarks regarding late-night host Jimmy Kimmel, labeling them “absolutely inappropriate.”

Kimmel is currently facing an indefinite suspension from “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” after he made controversial comments about the assassination of Charlie Kirk. During his show, Kimmel suggested that some conservatives are trying to exploit the tragedy for political gain, insinuating that the suspect is linked to Trump’s supporters. This stands in contrast to previous claims made by prosecutors.

In a statement made on September 15, Paul remarked, “We hit some new lows over the weekend… and the Magagangs are desperately trying to shift blame onto others.”

Kirk was tragically shot at a university event in Utah on September 10, allegedly by 22-year-old Tyler Robinson, who has been romantically linked to a transgender partner. An FBI document has reportedly revealed Robinson’s confession.

In response to Kimmel’s comments, Chairman Carr seemed to apply pressure on ABC for regulatory action during an appearance on “The Benny Show.” Shortly thereafter, ABC confirmed the suspension of Kimmel’s show.

“We can address this the easy way or the hard way,” Carr stated. “These companies can make changes and hold Kimmel accountable, or we will have to pursue further actions beyond the FCC.”

Paul criticized Carr’s involvement, suggesting that the FCC’s focus on such issues isn’t appropriate. He clarified, however, that while people are entitled to express controversial opinions, they aren’t guaranteed employment regardless of those views. “You have the right to voice your opinion, but that doesn’t guarantee a job,” he noted.

In the aftermath of Kimmel’s comments, Sinclair, the largest affiliate group of ABC, decided to remove Kimmel’s show from its stations. They issued a statement expressing gratitude for Carr’s remarks and outlined conditions that Kimmel must meet for his show to return to air.

Kimmel’s comments have not only drawn ire but also calls for accountability. Sinclair set forth conditions that include an apology to the Kirk family and a donation to Turning Point USA, among others. They also demanded a formal conversation regarding ABC’s commitment to “professionalism and accountability.”

Fox News Digital has reached out to Chairman Carr for further comments.
