Sen. R-Ky. Sen. Paul (R-Ky.) shared his thoughts on Tuesday about why he won't enthusiastically support former President Trump in the next election.
pole In a statement about CNBC revealed that she significantly prefers Trump to the Democratic presidential nominee, Vice President Harris.
But he said he's not wholeheartedly enthusiastic about a second term for Trump, given how he handled the budget deficit while in office.
“In terms of my enthusiasm, you know, I'm a deficit hawk. The Trump administration added $8 trillion. The Biden administration is going to add $8 trillion. We're going to add $2 trillion this year,” Paul said.
Paul noted that President Trump had advocated for $2,500 stimulus checks to help with COVID-19 as he was leaving office.
“I don't agree with that,” Paul said. “I'm against lockdowns and I'd like to hear stronger language in that sense.”
As the ranking member of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, Paul has held hearings focused on the origins of the COVID-19 virus and “high-risk biological research.” He has blasted those opposed to the “lab leak” theory.
He said Tuesday he wanted permission from President Trump to continue the investigation and a promise to sign legislation regulating the research.
Paul said he still supports Trump's election victory.
“I don't think there's any question that Donald Trump is better than Kamala Harris,” he said.
Mr Paul denounced Ms Harris as a socialist and said her plan to tax unrealised gains was “not only stupid but so destructive that it should be disqualified”.
